Kharkiv Zoo. Ukraine
Kharkiv Zoo was closed for reconstruction in the summer of 2016, but intensive work began only in 2018. As part of a company that specializes in working with artistic concrete, I was able to participate in the creation of many enclosures for large animals, birds and mammals.
The configuration of welded load-bearing structures and further decoration with artistic concrete were carefully worked out. In many fences and sculptural decor, a combination of forms imitating wood, stone, and rocks was used.
After the welded structure was ready, I applied a base layer of concrete and then an artistic layer imitating the shapes and textures of nature.
The height of some constructions sometimes reached tens of meters for the safety of zoo visitors.
In the subsequent painting of art concrete, I used the technique of painting on wet primer and paint to get the most natural surface.
